Maybe I had high expectations because I really like(d) the franchise. I do think the jump scare at the end was great however. The jump scares were also extremely predictable (except the last one). It felt unauthentic, sure horror movies can be sentimental, but in this film it felt lazy and cheap (like the story line about Elise's husband). I also really dont like how it got too sentimental at times. I feel as if the storyline with her mother was irrelevant to the story other than the ending, there could have been other ways she could have accidentally communicated with the demon instead and it could have avoided that ending. I feel that they only made the character a teenager in order to be able to relate to teen audiences, the little brother was also unlikeable (and really has no purpose) and both her friends served no purpose as characters. Reeling from the unexpected death of her husband, Beth (Rebecca Hall) is left alone in the lakeside home he built for her.

The demon in the movie was also not as scary as the crossdressing serial killer ghost or Darth Maul. On top of that the ending was so lame, and Elise's superpowers were so cheesy (in a bad way). I think it was executed poorly because it did not have as many disturbing imagery like the other films ( Example). She would then go tell others and they wouldn't believe her and so the demon would keep haunting her while she couldn't move and was vulnerable. Let me explain: I think that the concept for the movie was for this girl to be crippled by her accident and this demon fucking around with her whenever nobody was home or she was alone. I think the idea was great but executed poorly.
Personally in my opinion I would rank Insidious Part 2 Over Insidious and Part 3 last. Just I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected, especially when comparing it to the first. Overall it was a fun time, I enjoy the story of these better than most horror films I've seen and it's still scary. But at a point, it became kind of predicable and once the suspense was lost, the ending really lost its steam. I'm not going to lie, I really can't handle horror too well and I was covering my eyes at the start. It's hard to be afraid of some sickly creature who an older woman can easily defeat. His chase was nothing close to Darth maul chasing them from the roof in the first. Then she could just stomp her foot or give a shove, and he became the man who couldn't do jack shit. The bride in black was so freaky to me before, but suddenly Elise shoved her across the room and said bitch and it was over. Also, I felt like the entities were on camera too often and once Elise realized she just had to believe in herself, it stopped becoming a horror movie. It trained me at a point to expect when a scare would come, nothing came out of nowhere like the first.
I can't remember now any suspenseful music or scenario that didn't lead to a jump scare, it always had a payoff. One had a dog barking right before and open space behind her shoulder, there was definitely something coming. One felt like completely safe dialogue scene and scared the shit out of me when it happened. A good comparison would be the Darth Maul scare from the first and this one. I'll admit, I'm normally a gigantic coward when it comes to horror movies, but I felt after a bit you could really see all the scares coming.
